Dream of a balloon rainbow that makes every party magical.

Custom Balloons

A generous sprinkling of colorful stickers (from an office supply store) instantly transforms plain white balloons, making them look sweet enough to eat. A horde of ghostly balloons rises from a grand piano, while a fog machine hidden beneath the bench seat adds to the eerie effect. Select a variety of balloons in heart shapes or rich reds and pinks to create a visually stunning token of affection. Incorporate subtle details such as printed messages of love or interwoven ribbons to add a touch of personal charm. Display the bouquet in an unexpected location to surprise and delight your significant other, making a memorable impact. I’m certainly a fan of balloons of all types, shapes, and sizes, but these picks are extra special.

Guide to Cruise Passport Policies for U S. Travelers

do you need a passport for a closed loop cruise

Imagine, for instance, that something goes awry, and you need to fly back to the United States from a foreign country for a medical emergency. In this situation and in the case of an emergency, you will need a passport in order to travel through an international airport and board an airplane traveling internationally. It’s important to check the itinerary for your trip because there are a few places, even on a closed-loop cruise, that do require a passport to disembark. This is particularly common in the Caribbean in nations including Guadeloupe, the island of Martinique, St. Barts, Barbados, and others. Dip your toes in Caribbean sand when you set sail from Port Canaveral or the Port of Miami.

What is a Passport Card and where can it Take Me?

If your cruise begins and ends in the same U.S. port -- for example, sailing roundtrip Miami to Miami -- then you are embarking on what is considered a closed loop cruise, according to the WHTI. If you begin your cruise in one U.S. port (e.g. San Diego) and end your cruise in a different U.S. port (say, Fort Lauderdale), it will not count as a closed loop. An Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) allows you to re-enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. However, an EDL is only accepted at land and sea border crossings, not for air travel.

West Coast Closed-Loop Cruises

On the other hand, the prerequisites for going on an open-loop cruise are far more stringent than those for closed-loop cruises. Enjoy seven days aboard the Celebrity Solstice discovering the untamed grandeur of Alaska’s Inside Passage. This ship is ideal for such magnificent surroundings thanks to its plenty of outdoor area and upper Lawn Lounge. You may also go canoeing, sail and dive trips, or even have a therapeutic treatment with a real shaman if that sounds more your speed. Chacchoben Ruins, which are located within a short distance from the port, are home to Mayan artifacts and history. It’s possible that you’ve heard the phrase “closed-loop cruise” thrown about in the context of sailing and been interested in what it means.

Traveling with disabilities can be an issue when traveling to other countries

Most of the itinerary options are on bigger ships with 1,500+ passengers. Disney Cruise Line has a very similar 3-day or 4-day itinerary, usually departing from Port Canaveral, which is on Florida’s Space Coast near Cape Canaveral. It leaves, returns to Port Canaveral, and stops at Disney’s Castaway Cay island and Nassau in between. Explore the rugged coasts of Alaska on a closed loop cruise from cities like Seattle and San Francisco.

Alaska

In Freeport, you can shop till you drop at the Port Lucaya Marketplace or kayak through the mangroves at Lucayan National Park. At the south end of the island of Eleuthera, Princess Cays offers island resort living at its finest. On one-way sailings, such as between Montreal and Boston on Holland America Line, you will need a passport to fly to or from Canada. For small-ship fans, other options include sailings that do not leave Alaska, such as those of UnCruise Adventures, Lindblad Expeditions, and Alaska Native–owned Alaskan Dream Cruises. This point should be top-of-mind especially because of COVID-19 and any other medical emergency that would require the trip to be altered or a medical evacuation. You’ll also be glad you have a passport if you encounter other unforeseen circumstances such as a family emergency or a sailing cut short due to bad weather or technical issues.

Even though it has something to do with the locations on the calendar completing a complete circle, there is more to the tale than that. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. What is a closed loop cruise can simply be phrased as any cruise ship debarking from and returning to the same point. To qualify, the ship must return to the exact same port they left from. Ships cannot depart Fort Lauderdale and return to Miami, even though both ports are in Florida. It’s your responsibility to ensure you have all the proper documentation to board the ship and enter each of the countries your cruise visits.

Fort Lauderdale and Miami, Florida, are popular ports for Celebrity Cruises. With Princess Cruises, you can travel to Grand Cayman, Puerto Rico, Mexico, or the Bahamas from the United States. They operate many cruises from Fort Lauderdale or off the West Coast, where you can sail from Los Angeles to Mexico or Hawaii. For example, this has made Hawaiian Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Alaska cruises very popular. Perhaps you’d prefer to explore beyond the destinations of a closed-loop cruise.

do you need a passport for a closed loop cruise

It can take eight to 11 weeks (expedited wait times are five to seven weeks) for a routine passport to be issued, so you always want to plan ahead. If you had an emergency and were forced to disembark due to illness or other reason in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, the Bahamas, Bermuda or Canada you would need a passport to return home by plane. On the rare occasion of a ship evacuation or a diversion to another country to disembark, a passport would also be essential for getting home. If you're planning a cruise and have questions about where you can travel without a passport, here's everything you need to know before you go. Learn the rules and consequences of traveling with an expired passport.

You might have heard the term "closed loop cruise" in reference to a sailing and wondered what it meant. While it does have to do with the ports on the itinerary -- forming a complete loop, if you will -- it's a bit more complicated than that. Though cruise ships and their contracted ports of call may change annually, here’s a list of cruise lines and expected ports they sail from. Nearly all cruise ships are foreign-flagged, so they must stop outside the nation.

All cruises everywhere else in the world that sail in destinations outside the United States require a passport. The itineraries of these cruises must cover only contiguous regions of the United States in order for them to be considered closed-loop vacations. This includes Mexico and Canada both of which share land borders with the United States, as well as a number of the islands that are located in the Caribbean. Cancun is a common port of call for Western Caribbean and Alaska cruises for the same reason that Vancouver is a common stop for Alaska cruises. When packing for a closed-loop cruise, don’t forget to include a hairdryer in your essentials. While many cruise ships provide hairdryers, bringing your own can ensure you have one on hand, especially if you have specific styling needs.

Nathan Diller is a consumer travel reporter for USA TODAY based in Nashville. If travelers get stuck at a port of call, there will be “a lot of red tape you have to get through” to make it home without one, Daly said. The State Department encourages having one "in case of an emergency, such as an unexpected medical air evacuation or the ship docking at an alternate port," according to its website. Sometimes Sailing is a cruise-focused website by Dan and Mikkel Woodruff, a couple passionate about cruising.

However, when minors are traveling with only one adult, Holland America requires all passengers to have a valid passport book. Additionally, U.S. travelers on closed-loop cruises won't typically have to worry about having a passport to enjoy the experience. Instead, U.S. Customs and Border Protection allows U.S. citizens 16 and older to enter and leave the country using alternative proof of citizenship. Approved forms of identification include a birth certificate or a government-issued photo ID, with additional documentation requirements in place for travelers 16 and under. Keep in mind that cruise passport requirements can change based on shore excursions, too.

Along the way, stop by Catalina Island for a day packed full of outdoor enjoyment. Kayak in and out of secret coves, zip line through the trees or try parasailing. In Ensenada, the “Cinderella of the Pacific,” you can ride horses along mountain trails, tour the wine country, shop for souvenirs and taste the local tequila. In the Eastern Caribbean, find dream destinations like Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic and Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos archipelago. In Amber Cove, you can tour the Dominican outback, soak up the sun on Coconut Cove Beach, or ride the Waterfalls of Rio de Damajagua. On Grand Turk, enjoy swimming with stingrays, riding horses along the coast, or touring the island by ATV.

If an emergency arises, only an official passport will allow you to fly home quickly from a foreign port. If you end up stranded in another country because of unforeseen circumstances, you do still have options, but it will take more time and effort to get home with only a birth certificate and photo ID. You might be surprised to know that certain U.S.-based cruises allow you to cruise without a passport.

However, there are things to be aware of when you’re looking into going on a closed-loop cruise from the United States. With the important information we have provided here, you’ll be an informed traveler who can make the best decision for your’s and your family’s next cruise. Miami, Galveston, Tampa, and Port Canaveral are the port of call where most closed-loop Carnival Cruises sail from.

Explore without a passport: What to know about closed-loop cruises

do you need a passport for a closed loop cruise

Note, however, that this does not necessarily mean that the countries on your itinerary, especially in the Caribbean, won’t still require you to have a passport to enter. If that’s the case, your cruise line might already require you to have a passport to board the ship—even if U.S. If you’re 16 or older, you will also need a valid government-issued driver’s license or picture ID that contains your photo, name and date of birth. Even though closed loop cruises can’t take you wherever you want to go, the destination choices may be more diverse than you’d expect. From the beaches of the Bahamas to the wilderness of Alaska, these are the greatest place you can visit on a closed loop cruise without a passport. Different documentation is acceptable for minors under 16, including an original, notarized, or certified copy of their birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Naturalization.

There are quite a few port options if you want to travel to the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. The main cruise port options with itineraries sailing there are from Port Canaveral, Manhattan, Port Everglades, Baltimore, Charleston, New Orleans, Cape Liberty, Galveston, or Tampa. U.S. Customs and Border Protection offers a comprehensive list and details the criteria for taking a cruise without a passport, including what constitutes a government-issued photo ID. As we mentioned, adults must have two ID forms to board a cruise if they don't have a passport.

Travel document requirements for sailings from U.S. homeports (excluding Honoulu, Hawaii & Seward, Alaska)

No matter which documents you bring, it's a smart idea to take copies of them (either paper ones or photos on your phone) when you leave the ship, in case something happens while you're ashore. Always carry some type of photo identification, like a driver's license, when you head into port. Any cruises where you need to fly to or from a foreign country, including Canada, will necessitate a passport.

If your cruise itinerary changes due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, and you end up stranded in a foreign port, you’ll need a passport to leave the country and fly back home. Without a passport, you may face significant delays, additional costs, or even deportation. When a valid U.S. passport book is required, the validity of the passport book is recommended with either 3 months or 6 months (most common) of validity remaining beyond the last day of the cruise. Princess Cruises provides a global experience, covering over 100 countries across all seven continents, including North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Carnival Cruises

The types of documentation that are required in order to go on a trip will typically vary from cruise line to cruise line. To leave and enter the United States while on a closed-loop cruise, all you need is evidence of nationality, such as your birth card. An enhanced driver's license is another alternative that you can use for land and sea port crossings, but not for international flights. Traditional expedited service can take up to 3 weeks—not including mailing times. To skip potential postal service delays, you could make an appointment with a local passport application acceptance center; however, this option may not get you a passport in 3 weeks. Therefore, even if a cruise doesn’t require a passport, it’s advisable to have one to avoid these potential issues.

Following that, you will spend a whole day gently sailing the 30-mile Endicott Arm Fjord. You will arrive at Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico, after a day at sea during which you may make the most of the ship and her exquisite Resort Vista. Swimming in the tranquil waters of the pristine Bacalar Lake, where you will float over cenote-fed water which is an incredible shade of aquamarine, is just one of the many options that await you in this area. A closed-loop cruise is one that does not need you to have a passport for the majority of its passengers.

You’ll visit pretty Ketchikan, from where you could join a bear-spotting tour, try kayaking, join an expedition to fish for king crab, or just explore the colorful town. The spectacle of this vast river of ice meeting the sea is a highlight of the day. After a day at sea to enjoy the ship and its magnificent Resort Deck, you’ll arrive at Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico. A vast array of choices beckons here, like relaxed tubing at the freshwater Bacalar Lagoon, where you’ll drift over cenote-fed water that’s an astonishing shade of aquamarine. If you do choose to take advantage of this opportunity to travel without a passport, there are a couple of warnings to bear in mind.

Margaritaville at Sea

Established in 1965, Princess Cruises, a prominent name in the cruise industry, began its journey with a single ship heading to Mexico. Today, it boasts a fleet of 15 state-of-the-art ships, offering a variety of onboard amenities and top-notch service, serving millions of passengers annually. Aboard their ships, guests are treated to a diverse array of dining options, both complementary and specialty. Entertainment includes a variety of live music and comedy to Broadway-style shows. Carnival Cruise Lines currently offers 13 cruise destinations for guests to choose from. Each cruise is packed with a wide array of entertainment choices, from stage shows and live music to deck parties and casinos, ensuring fun-filled days and nights.

If you aren’t sure, please ask your cruise line about this in advance. A closed loop cruise refers only to U.S. immigration regulations and passport requirements for U.S. citizens. It does not reflect those of the destinations on the closed loop cruise. U.S. citizens younger than 16 may use an original, notarized or certified copy of their birth certificate to go on a closed loop cruise. Comprised of the Western, Eastern and Southern Caribbean Island, the greater Caribbean region is home to some of the greatest beach destination on the planet.

Or you can sail in a loop from the port of Ravenna in Venice, Italy, to see cities in Italy, Croatia, and Greece. An incredibly popular cruise line, Royal Caribbean departs from 14 ports across the US. The most popular closed-loop itineraries leave from Port Canaveral and Miami, where they sail to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

A passport book is not only the most reliable form of identification but if guests unexpectedly need to fly to or from the U.S. during their cruise, not having a passport book could cause big problems and delays. Be aware that requirements on closed-loop cruises can still change in certain countries, so be sure to check the entry requirements of the specific cruise ports on your itinerary. Some Caribbean nations still require passports or passport cards, like Martinique and Guadeloupe.

It also requires a government-issued driver's license or a photo ID with your name and date of birth. Always check your cruise line’s specific travel document requirements for more information on whether a passport card is an acceptable form of identification for your specific cruise. Carnival Cruise Line strongly advises having a valid passport book while traveling.

For specific travel requirements, it is always best to check with the cruise line. Those sailing on a closed-loop cruise can enter or leave the country with an alternative proof of citizenship, such as a government-issued driver’s license or birth certificate. U.S. citizens under 16 are exempt from the passport requirement for land and sea border crossings. Instead of a passport, children can use an original or certified copy of a U.S. state-issued birth certificate.

A different cruise experience and a better traveling experience and one of the best ways to pass time. In most cases, children under the age of 16 who are traveling with a parent or guardian do not require a passport; nonetheless, you must bring at least a birth document with you as evidence of nationality. Take a trip to the Islands and the clear, coastal weather of the Caribbean aboard the luxurious Celebrity Edge, one of the most cutting-edge and magnificent vessels now sailing the seas.

In our minds, investing around a dollar per month for 10 years of security is a steal. One of the closed itineraries growing in popularity in Europe is a cruise to Iceland. Departing and ending at Rotterdam, in The Netherlands, you’ll get to explore this true wonder of the world. Cruises to Iceland also commonly include a port of call in Ireland as well. It’s not great for traveling with kids but if you’re adults, it’s a wonderful option.

Celebrity Beyond Restaurants With Menus

celebrity cruise food

Deck 3 of Moonlight Sonata is reserved for those who want traditional assigned time dining; choices are either 6 p.m. Deck 4 is for people who opt to dine anytime between opening hours. Sunset Bar$ A hidden gem at the aft of the ship, The Sunset Bar is an unexpected surprise. Completely remodelled, as it was on Beyond, the Rooftop Garden Grill channels a Middle Eastern/southern Med vibe both in terms of design and flavors.

Main Dining on Edge-Series Ships

Start your day with fresh-baked pastries and a cappuccino at a quaint cafe inspired by Italy’s famous coffee culture. Fuel an afternoon at the pool with mouthwatering American cuisine. Take your sweetheart on a date night complete with tantalizing sushi. Look out over the tranquil sea with a nightcap before sinking into your plush accommodations. You can do it all again—with a completely new set of bars and restaurants—the next day. Exclusively for AquaClass guests, Blu features a spa-inspired menu that emphasizes a holistic health experience.

Le Petit Chef

We found the cuisine to be a mix of French, Italian and "New American" styles, with good, hearty salads. Le Voyage$$$$ Daniel Boulud’s restaurant made a splash on Beyond, and reappears on Celebrity Ascent, complete with a makeover including a new chandelier, plush banquet seating and a private dining room. Surprisingly for a ship with 2,800-plus passengers, this restaurant feels spacious and uncrowded. There is ample room to navigate between tables, and the room's openness, combined with extensive carpeting on the floors, results in a tolerable noise level, even when the restaurant is busy. Breakfast, lunch (sea days only) and dinner is served at Grand Epernay, with a wait of no more than five minutes for a table, even at peak times. Service seems to be bit harried, particularly during peak dining times.

Eden Restaurant

Perhaps the most unique restaurant on Celebrity’s Edge Class ships is the Eden Restaurant. On Celebrity Beyond, this restaurant now offers both a 7-course tasting menu or you can choose your own appetizers, entrée, and dessert. We are not huge fans of buffet-style dining, so we only ate here a couple times for breakfast and lunch. Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship, Celebrity Beyond, just made her debut in the United States, and we set sail on her first cruise from Fort Lauderdale. Now, we are back and have put together this Celebrity Beyond Restaurants Guide with menus so you can see what is available at the different restaurants onboard this latest Edge Class ship.

Featured Bars

AquaClass passengers do not have to pay extra to dine here, and suite passengers may book tables on a space-available basis, for free. The food on Celebrity Solstice is generally good, with an occasional great if you've chosen a meal in one of the ship's specialty restaurants. The Oceanview Café does an admirable job at providing many options, although we did notice that it's hard to find snacks at certain hours. We do appreciate that Celebrity Solstice has made it easy to stay healthy, if you'd like, through its AquaSpa Cafe -- and easy to indulge if you don't, with the free (and delicious!) pastries at Café al Bacio.

You can book the restaurants via the celebrity App when you wish to have your dinner. There are four main dining rooms on the Celebrity Edge, all of which have their own theme. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. At booking, you are offered a choice between traditional times, designated as early or late, or flexible dining called Celebrity Select Anytime Dining. The Retreat Lounge serves up bar bites, gourmet snacks and even gourmet burgers on occasion.

Is Celebrity Select Dining offered on all ships?

For men, a dress shirt with pants or designer jeans is a go-to for evening chic. Button-down shirts are also perfect men’s attire for dining during your cruise. It never costs more than booking directly with the cruise line, you get impartial advice, and often a better price or added extras – like onboard credit that you wouldn’t get booking direct. You can’t book this restaurant before you board the cruise, reservations have to be made once onboard. Breakfast food is free, but the cafe is only open for a couple of hours, and shuts quite early – I only made breakfast here once.

Fresh Catches

On our Celebrity Edge® Series ships, we may have reinvented the main restaurant experience with four restaurants, but we haven’t changed the way you plan your dining in these restaurants. Now, you can choose Celebrity Select Dining Early or Celebrity Select Dining Late, and you’ll be assigned one of the four main dining restaurants, while having the option to dine in the other three upon request. Choose Celebrity Select Dining Anytime, and you can dine in any of the four restaurants when you want. With Celebrity Select Dining the choice of how you plan your evening meals is up to you. This is the point at which Celebrity food choices become confusing. Guests are assigned to one of the four but may opt to dine at any of the other three at any time they choose.

Entrees exclusive to Normandie include dishes like cassoulet of confit duck and salmon roasted with wild lavender. Our chefs fuse refined flavors with unexpected profiles and beautiful plating in an upscale atmosphere. Come along with us to Greece at Cyprus, where fresh seafood and a light, Mediterranean menu will delight your palate. Start with menu items exclusive to Cyprus, from mouthwatering sea bass ceviche to lemon-dill chicken souvlaki. On Celebrity Edge Series, we offer Celebrity Select Dining Anytime. Select your dining time in any of the four restaurants and enjoy a change of scenery.

Outside of regular mealtimes, ice cream, pizza, pasta, sushi, afternoon tea and late-night snacks are on offer, all without additional charge. A juice bar serves up particularly delicious freshly squeezed O.J., but it will set you back a few bucks. No matter, the aspect is gorgeous and the space is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which afford great views wherever you are sat. Lunch is lighter, offering a nice mix of sandwiches, salads and flatbread pizzas. Dinner is when you’ll find the more substantial eats – think burgers, baby back ribs, BBQ grilled chicken and grilled branzino.

There aren't a lot of seats -- there's no sit-down sushi "bar" -- and it can get crowded at dinner; reservations are recommended. Dining on Celebrity Edge is an exclusive affair for guests of The Retreat with access to a private restaurant, Luminae at The Retreat®—the highest-rated restaurant in our fleet. Luminae is sumptuously designed by Kelly Hoppen and features daily changing menus not available in any other restaurant on board. You won’t find another dining experience like this at sea – or on land for that matter. Discover each of our restaurant and bar venues in more detail below, and satisfy your appetite for adventure by booking an exceptional cruise onboard Celebrity Edge. Located inside Reflection's main galley (kitchen), the 16-seat Chef's Table is separated from all the action by a glass wall so diners can watch the hustle and bustle as waiters come and go.

In the morning, stop in for farm-fresh eggs, muesli, or a fresh-pressed juice. Blu is open for breakfast and dinner each day, with a daily changing dinner menu. Fixed price indicates that dining at the restaurant has a single cover charge for the full meal.

As well as serving the standard selection of food in each restaurant, they have a couple of regional dishes specific to that restaurant’s theme. Imagine a French sidewalk cafe at sea serving warm croissants with Nutella at breakfast and a daily special that ranges from baked ham sandwiches on French baguettes to pan-seared Dover sole. Today, Celebrity Cruises ships are much larger — with the smallest being almost twice the gross tonnage Zenith had (91,000 gross tonnes versus 47,000 gross tonnes) — and have far more space devoted to food. What is your favorite from the list of Celebrity Beyond restaurants?

Everything I Ate on my Celebrity Cruise Photos and Menus Food Review

Lunch features one changing "Chef's Choice" station (primarily a carving station) in addition to tacos, pastas, stir-fry, sandwiches, soups, salads and other specialty stops. There is plenty of elbow room between tables, and attentive waiters are available for assistance for those who require it. The buffet layout is excellent, with many serving and prep stations situated as islands in the middle of the room, rather than stretched along the walls. The result is a dependably uncrowded, spacious operation offering an extensive number of choices.

Lobster tails may be ordered any night of the cruise for an extra charge in the main dining room. If complimentary lobster is served in the dining room as part of the menu, only one lobster tail is included. Waiter-served, extra-fee restaurants — whether fixed price or a la carte — typically require reservations. Popular choices with limited seating might fill all available time slots as soon as reservations open.

Specialty Restaurants on Celebrity Beyond

As such, it's better to make a reservation to ensure you get the time slot you prefer. Guests have the choice of the five-course tasting menu called "Five Senses" or their own starter and entree, among a broad selection of meat, poultry and fish options. The Magic Carpet is the elevator-style platform attached to the side of all Edge Class ships. When the platform is positioned next to Raw on 5, it features a menu that includes favorites from the Raw on 5 menu but with extras. For example, the lunch menu includes a turkey club sandwich and a lobster roll, as well as fish and chips.

How does dining work on Celebrity Cruises?

Innovative and creatively presented but never pretentious, exclusive culinary cruises and myriad onboard experiences will take you behind the scenes, in the galley, and teach you new tricks of the trade. This speciality dining restaurant features an immersive and visual dinner where an animated chef is projected on the table from above. If you are taking a cruise with Celebrity you may be wondering what the food will be like. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are all included at no extra cost on a Celebrity cruise. Perhaps one of the most upscale steakhouses at sea, Fine Cut on Celebrity is certainly a slice above other similar venues. This restaurant offers succulent starters like a Lobster Cocktail and Ricotta Gnocchi.

If you prefer formal, fine dining, Qsine might not be for you, but this fun restaurant experience is a major hit with passengers, so reservations are required. Upbeat staff guide diners through their "dining journey," and passengers place orders on iPads. Quirky serving styles and relatively simple food make Qsine perfect for multigenerational celebrations, as there is something to suit every diner regardless of age. With the impressive overall quality of food onboard Celebrity Reflection, there is little need to spend extra on specialty dining unless you feel like a treat. Even Oceanview Cafe and Grill, the cheerful buffet venue on Deck 14, takes things to a new level with tasty international dishes that belie the restaurant's casual surroundings. Elevate your dining experience at Luminae, a private restaurant for guests of The Retreat®, where the menu is unlike any others on board.

Which beverages are included with my cruise fare?

The breakfast buffet on all mainstream cruise lines is suspiciously similar. Omelets stations, fruit stations, bread stations, bacon you cannot get for yourself. We almost always have the exact same breakfast no matter what cruise line we are sailing.

A private dining room reserved for passengers booked in Celebrity's AquaClass category, Blu has a similar multicourse menu to Moonlight Sonata but with fewer offerings. The cuisine style relies less on rich sauces and sauteeing and more on natural reductions, ragouts and herbs. We found the food rather uninspiring, and the atmosphere cold. AquaClass passengers do not have to pay extra to dine here; suite passengers may book tables on a space-available basis, also for free. Lunch and dinner menus change daily (as in they are never repeated) and are freshly prepared -- often with produce sourced from the port visited that day. The dinner menu is limited intentionally, apparently, to ensure the selections are always fresh.

Book Your Specialty Dining Package Now to Enjoy the Best Value

Keep an eye out for discounts on embarkation day when specialties tend to be quiet; otherwise bookings are essential for most venues. You can also save money by buying specialty dining packages, particularly before you board, although they are also available the first few days of your cruise. Deck 5 is the epicenter for specialty dining on Celebrity Solstice. The Ensemble Vestibule -- an edgy, black, box-like room with an innovative audio-visual art installation -- is the entryway into the Ensemble Lounge, an energetic, convivial watering hole ideal for pre-dinner drinks. Infinity's sushi restaurant is hidden in an easy-to-miss area behind the Cellar Masters bar on Deck 5. Sushi, sashimi and Japanese favorites like gyoza and edamame are on the menu here.

Oceanview Cafe Buffet

Settle into comfortable seating underneath a stunning glass art installation, and refuel with delicious specialty coffees and treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. They’re all here, ready to serve up hand-crafted cocktails and ice cold craft brews, or healthy snacks and juices you need to refuel and refresh after a day at the spa or pool. When it comes to understanding our menu, we’ve created symbols for various dietary preferences.

The Spa Cafe is open for breakfast approximately 7 to 10 AM and for lunch from noon to 2 PM. Featuring small plates and smoothies (covered in the Premium Beverage Package), this is the perfect spot for a quick bite to eat while relaxing on a sea day. You can also pour your own tea (12 tea choices) and coffee, or fill up a glass with orange juice, lemonade, fruit punch or iced tea for free. The exclusive dessert is a raspberry coulis with layers of chocolate.

At lunch, a wide variety of cold options are available, plus there's a sandwich bar where you can order from a chef, who will make it exactly the way you want it. Other spots include a carving station and the daily feature station, which offers a rotating selection of deliciousness -- one day, chefs might prepare Vietnamese-style pho, the next, paella. This was one of our favorites, as many items are made a la minute and are both creative and delicious. Other hot items fell under themes like Latin American and Indian. American standards are available every day, too; head to the back of the restaurant for freshly made pizza, calzones and breadsticks.

As the sun sets against the backdrop of the ocean, your adventures are just beginning. Keep it casual at a pub-style restaurant or dine al fresco under the stars. Stay up late drinking hand-crafted cocktails, or rise early for the perfect cup of coffee or tea delivered to your stateroom.

And like on Beyond, there are wine barrel booths that overlook all the action. Expect typical steakhouse fare – different cuts of beef, ribs, fish and chicken, and a large choice of sides. Celebrity Ascent also sees a new dish -- the Lemon Poached Lobster Tail with melted leeks, shiitake mushrooms, lobster ravioli and a house-made beurre Blanc sauce. Dishes include tuna crudo, tamarind encrusted prawns and a deliciously light poached Brazilian moqueca, which comes with shrimp and squid.

Our Global Culinary Ambassador, world-renowned chef Daniel Boulud, also creates new, exclusive signature dishes for guests of Luminae and the Chef’s Table experience, there’s something to please every palate. Along with our top culinary talent on board who prepare the dishes fresh daily using locally sourced ingredients, you’ll enjoy the best dining experience at sea. Only passengers staying in suite accommodations can dine at Luminae. The space is elegant yet contemporary and large picture windows let in plenty of light. Breakfast is the same each day, while lunch offers two rotating menus, which can become a bit monotonous.

All main dining rooms also have "Celebrity Signatures" and "Classic" menu options. Like the Exclusives items, Classic menu options (Caesar salad, shrimp cocktail, grilled chicken, New York sirloin, etc.) also do not change from night to night. The Signatures menu does change every night and makes up the bulk of each restaurant's offerings. The dinner menu is not overloaded with choices, offering seven always changing entrees each night, including a salad entree. Although no separate spa, vegetarian or heart-healthy menus are added on, at least one choice per course qualifies for each category. In addition, the chef suggests his favorite from the available options, and there are also several "classic favorite" options available nightly.
